Information Sessions on DAPA/DACA provided at BRIYA DC Public Charter School for Adult Education

During the month of February, Julia M. Toro spoke at Briya  DC Public Charter School for Adult Education.

She explained President Obama’s expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) as well as the new Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program for parents of U.S. citizen and lawful permanent resident children.

unknownOn November 20th, President Obama  announced  several changes to US immigration policy including to expand the DACA program to those who entered before 1/1/10 [rather than only those who entered before 2007] and eliminating the age limit for those who can apply [there is no age limit], as well as provide relief to parents of US citizen and lawful permanent resident children no matter their age (DAPA).

The new expanded DACA will begin on February 18, and no forms or fees can be submitted to the US Immigration Services before then.  DAPA will not be implemented until May 2015, and there exist no forms or address to which to submit these applications.  One can only prepare their documentation as to how and when they entered the US [before 1/1/10] and proof of being physically present in the US from 1/1/10 to the present.

If you have any arrests or stops by the police you will need to get your police record or record from the court .  Therefore, we strongly recommend to first check with an immigration lawyer to see if you still can apply for DACA or DAPA.  As always, feel free to call our office, should you need to schedule an appointment to learn if you qualify and the needed documentation to support your application.
