DACA new developments

In a 5-4 decision issued on June 18, 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked President Trump’s attempt to rescind DACA and strip approximately 700,000 Dreamers of their lawful status. The Supreme Court determined that the manner in which President Trump tried to terminate DACA was incorrect and therefore, unlawful. This means that, for now, DACA remains and Dreamers are able to continue to renew their DACA and work permits for their status under temporary protection.  As DACA was created through an Executive Order under the Obama Administration, President Trump may be able to terminate DACA through other lawful means.

For now please be sure to stay in contact with our office if you are a Dreamer with DACA so as to determine how this may affect your renewal and or eligibility.  If you are not sure how this decision might affect your status in the United States, you can contact us for a legal consultation at 2020-467-8340 or via email at pj@torolawfirm.com
